Athrun, 16, went missing from West Shore Beach in Llandudno on Saturday afternoon

The search for a "vulnerable" 16-year-old boy is to resume after the potential sighting of a body in the sea, police have said.

Athrun, who is autistic, and was believed to be wearing only blue and white patterned swim shorts and no footwear, was reported missing from West Shore Beach in Llandudno, Conwy county at about 14:00 BST on 10 May.

North Wales Police said the sighting came shortly after 19:00 BST on Tuesday during air searches for Athrun, who is from South Gloucestershire.

Coastguards and an underwater search team were unable to find body during searches through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, the force said.

Athrun's family has been informed and were being supported by officers, the force added.

Chief inspector Trystan Bevan said despite the "tireless efforts of emergency services overnight" Athrun has not been found.

"There will be an increased emergency service presence in the West Shore area of Llandudno area again this evening as efforts to locate and recover the body will continue," he said.

"I would once again urge members of the public not to speculate on social media or gather on the beach out of respect for the family during this deeply distressing time."
