A former golf club building has been "destroyed" by a blaze, firefighters have said.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said the fire broke out at the derelict structure in Christchurch Road, Longham, at about 18:00 BST on Friday and was extinguished by 22:22.

Crews remained at the scene on Saturday to monitor hotspots before handing the site back to the owner at about 16:30.

The fire service said an investigation into the cause of the fire would "continue in the coming days".

At its height, about 40 firefighters tackled the blaze at the former Dudsbury Golf Club building.

The fire service said crews found the structure "well alight" on Friday evening and previously advised residents to keep doors and windows closed.

The blaze was extinguished using three main jets, a ground monitor, aerial ladder platform and ten breathing apparatus, DWFRS explained.
