Police working to identify victim of flat blaze

One person was killed when a fire swept through a flat in Greater Manchester.

Police said they were still working to identify the adult victim after the blaze broke out on Walkers Road in the Hollins area of Oldham at about 20:25 GMT on Thursday.

Det Insp Roberto Dicorato, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "A person has sadly lost their life following the fire last night, and we are working closely with partners in the fire service to establish the exact cause."

He added: "We have not yet established the full circumstances and would ask anyone with any information, or who witnessed the fire, to please get in touch.

"This includes anyone with nearby CCTV or doorbell footage.

"Firefighters liaised with North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe. Crews departed after roughly seven hours."
