Engineers will work through the night to carry out emergency gas repairs on a main road.

A section of Barkway Road, in Royston, Hertfordshire, was closed to traffic while gas supplier, Cadent, surveyed the scene.

Residents in the area reported a strong smell of gas on Thursday.

Cadent confirmed the road had been shut on its website and said the works would continue until 16 January.
