A 38-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after another man was stabbed a number of times during an assault in County Down.

Police were called to a serious assault in Breezemount Close shortly after 08:00 GMT on Tuesday and the injured party was later taken to hospital.

The 38-year-old is also charged with possession of an offensive weapon and is due to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates' Court on Monday 13 January.

A 34-year-old woman, who was also arrested in connection with the incident, has been released on bail.
