Repairs on city centre bridge to start this month

Work to repair "significant damage" to a busy bridge in Hull is due to start this month.

Drypool Bridge will be subject to closures while the strengthening work is carried out.

Mark Ieronimo, Hull City Council's cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: "Drypool Bridge has served Hull for generations, and this repair programme is vital to making sure it remains a safe, reliable route for residents."

Contractors will start setting up their site compound on 7 July in preparation for the work.

The initial work will concentrate on the south side of the bridge.

A contraflow system will be introduced on Monday, 14 July, allowing two-way traffic to continue during the first phase.

The path linking St Peter Street and Clarence Street will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists.

The second phase will involve the full closure of the bridge.

The BBC has previously reported that the work will cost more than £7m.
