The son of celebrity chef Marco Pierre White has been given a suspended prison sentence for burglary.

Marco Xavier Pierre White, 29, from Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, was caught after he was spotted leaving a shop with electronics and a jewellery box.

He was handed a 30-week sentence suspended for 18 months, at North Somerset Magistrates' Court on 29 November for two burglaries and one theft.

PC Joseph Reed, of Avon and Somerset Police, said officers were able to make a "swift arrest" thanks to a call from a bystander.

The burglaries took place at a studio in Meadow Street and a shop on Cheap Street, Bath, with a further charge for a theft from a store on Winterstoke Road.

All took place between 19 September and 22 October, the court heard.

Pierre White was arrested in Weston-super-Mare after the theft was reported by a member of the public and officers saw him in a nearby street with stolen items.

Investigating officer PC Reed said he dropped these and ran, but was stopped and arrested a short time later.

He said: "Retail crime causes immense harm to our communities and we're committed to tackling these offences in all their forms.

"He’s now been brought to justice for three offences within a short period of time."

Pierre White was also handed a nine-month drug rehabilitation order and a fine.
