The free event runs until 30 March

Thousands of people have watched the first night of an art show inspired by the Northern Lights in Liverpool.

Borealis, which means northern in Latin, started on Thursday night at Albert Dock and will continue every evening until 30 March.

Created by artist Dan Acher, the free show has already been seen in more than 40 cities worldwide.

Its Liverpool run coincides with the onset of spring and organisers say it will "serve as a symbol of seasonal change".
