People have been encouraged to share their views on plans to regenerate a seaside town's promenade by replacing rundown tennis courts with a new community hub.

The proposals by Peel Commissioners for the site on Marine Parade include a café, bowling clubhouse, and public toilets.

A series of drop-in sessions to gather feedback on the plans, that were approved upon appeal in September, will run at Peel Town Hall until Saturday.

Commissioner Alan Jones said the aim was to create a "facility that was valuable to the community" and could be used for a range of purposes.

The site at the northern end of Peel's promenade lies in an area designated for tourism under the local development plan.

Public toilets are included in the proposals for the cafe, which would have a capacity of 56 seats inside and 44 outside, alongside functions rooms for use by the community and the town's bowls club.

Commissioner Frank Crompton said he wanted to see as many residents as possible share their thoughts on the proposals.

The board has also asked residents to suggest names for the new building, which would have a view of the 1,000-year-old Peel Castle from the café.

Display boards showing how the facility could be developed and how the building could look will be available for the public to view at the drop-in sessions.
