A road next to Manchester Airport was closed for nine hours following a collision that left two teenagers in hospital.

The crash, between a Ford Kuga and a red VW Polo, happened at the junction of the A555 and Styal Road at 21:00 GMT on Wednesday.

A 19-year-old man from Wythenshawe was arrested nearby on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, going equipped to steal, failing to stop for officers and failing to provide a specimen.

Cheshire Police is still trying to identify two other people who were in the Ford.

The force said officers were on patrol in Styal when a grey Ford Kuga sped away from the area.

They followed the car before losing sight of it. It was then involved in a collision with the red VW Polo and the three people in the Ford then fled the area on foot.

The people in the Polo, a man and a woman both aged 19, sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

The arrested man remains in custody and inquiries to identify the two other occupants are ongoing, police said.

The road was closed while officers dealt with the collision, with it later reopening at about 06:00GMT.
