New equipment has been donated to a hospital in the north of the Isle of Man by a charitable trust.

Two bedside monitors and weighing scales have been handed over by the Ramsey District Cottage Hospital (RDCH) Welfare Fund.

The monitors for the outpatients department and the scales in the renal unit cost more than £5,600.

Senior nurse Corinna Haire said it mean the hospital could improve efficiency across the whole outpatient service.

She added that there was a recent need for the new equipment due to an increase in cardiology appointments.

"We cannot thank the trust enough for supporting us with this," she said.

The bedside machines capture a full set of vital data in under a minute, giving users more time to focus on patients, a spokeswoman said.

The weighing scales cover all mobility levels and will be an integral part of ongoing treatment within the unit, she added.

Andrew Kelsey, chairman of the RDCH fund, said while the cost was "relatively modest", the importance of the equipment would provide an "enormous return".

Dr Kelsey said the equipment would be used extensively "during a service life of many years" and would help staff to obtain accurate, rapid data.

"It is one of the many small but very significant areas that all contribute towards maintaining care, safety and improving the experience of being a patient," he added.
