A care home in West Yorkshire has been moved out of special measures after an inspection by the regulator.

Valley View Court in Keighley was visited by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in January and its rating has been changed from inadequate to good.

The home, which is run by Bradford council, provides personal care for up to 30 adults and older people with needs, including dementia, mental health conditions and sensory impairments.

Linda Hirst, CQC deputy director of operations in the North, said "many improvements" had been made at the home. Manager Sarah Checkley said the improved rating "belongs to the whole team - each and every one has contributed to this fantastic result".

The CQC had placed the home in special measures in July 2023, reporting that people were not always safe and were at risk of harm.

'Right direction'

During their visits between 2 January and 7 February, the CQC said it spoke to staff, relatives and health and care partners from across the system who were invited to share their views.

They also reviewed case files kept at the home.

Ms Hirst said managers had "created a more positive culture, and had also reviewed systems and processes so people were now receiving a better standard of care".

"It was reassuring to hear that relatives were positive about how their loved ones were being supported at the home," she added.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: "We are really pleased with the outcome offered by the CQC.

"This recognises all the hard work and dedication that staff have invested in order to turn this rating around to a positive result.

"We recognise that there is still lots more to do in improving services, and staff are absolutely committed in taking the next step to continue moving in the right direction."
