A 17-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries in a gang fight involving machetes in north Leeds, police said.

Officers were called to reports of a group of teenage boys in balaclavas fighting on Easterly Road, near the junction with Amberton Road, at about 14:20 BST on Tuesday.

The victim, who was driven to hospital by a passing member of the public, suffered a "serious injury" to the side of his head, including "substantial damage" to his ear and "serious slash wounds" to his back, West Yorkshire Police said.

"His injuries are not considered life-threatening but may be life-changing," a spokesperson said.

The victim, who is continuing to undergo treatment, has been arrested on suspicion of affray, the force confirmed.

Det Insp Dan Ridgway from Leeds District CID said: "This incident took place next to a busy dual carriageway in the middle of the afternoon, and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed any part of it, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam or phone footage that could assist the investigation."
