A woman has been left with facial injuries after being slashed across the face by a cyclist.

The attack took place at about 18:30 GMT on Tuesday 4 March in Campbell Park in Jarrow, South Tyneside.

The victim was approached by a man riding a bicycle who then assaulted her and wounded her face.

Northumbria Police said she was left shaken from the attack and the force was now investigating.

It has asked anyone with information to come forward.
