A university is to offer shortened, cheaper courses for students.

The University of Chichester said the five and 10-week courses were for those looking to "gain a taste of university life".

The institution in West Sussex said it welcomed those who were retired, younger students on gap years and those considering a return to university.

Nine courses are to launch in February.

The subjects on offer include the Tudors, Witchcraft and Magic in Early Modern Europe, Brexit: Before, During and After and Identity and Conflict in Russia and Eurasia.

Other subject matters include Adolf Hitler, world literature and the environment.

The courses will be taught by specialists and are "a perfect way to access international research and scholarship on your doorstep", the university says.

"Would you like to gain a taste of university life? Return to university to listen to lectures and follow courses without signing up for a full degree programme or committing yourself to assignment writing," a spokesperson added.

Five-week courses cost £475, while 10-week courses are available for £950.
