A culture trail planned for Hornsea featuring starfish sculptures is hoping to attract more people to the seaside town.

The Hornsea Collective is looking at launching a project similar to the Puffins Galore sculptures around East Yorkshire in 2022.

As well as looking to boost visitor numbers, the trail will highlight threats to wildlife.

The wall-mounted sculptures will go up on buildings around the East Yorkshire town as part of a project called Starfish Galaxy.

Sher King, founder of The Hornsea Collective, a not-for-profit business support and advice service, said: "We're going to have 10 starfish decorated by local artists and that will be the start of the trail.

"At the moment we are securing sponsorship... and depending on where the sponsorship businesses want them, that's where they will be located."

The starfish will be about 6ft (1.8m) in diameter and will be displayed high on buildings to keep them safe.

The artists decorating each starfish have already been chosen following an application process.

The plan is for smaller designs of the sculptures to be made, too, so people can put them on their garden fences.

Organisers hope the project can spread to other nearby resorts, such as Withernsea.
