Man jailed for 'campaign of misery' against woman

A man who punched a woman in the head while she was driving on a motorway has been jailed for domestic abuse offences.
Mohammed Baig, 43, was sentenced to two years at Swindon Crown Court for controlling and coercive behaviour, assault, and dangerous driving on 24 February.
The court heard Baig, of Savile Town in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, also took money from the woman as well as her phone, controlled her spending, and made threats.
Wiltshire Police said Baig "inflicted a campaign of misery" against his victim.
Investigating officers said Baig demonstrated a pattern of controlling and coercive behaviour towards the victim throughout their relationship.
The force added the domestic abuse related offences took place in Trowbridge.
On 8 August 2024, Baig hit the woman while she was driving on the M42.
Weeks later, Baig followed the victim when she refused to speak to him in a car in which a witness said he was swerving over the road in front and behind the victim.
Local crime investigator O'Harney said: "Reporting domestic abuse is such a difficult thing to do, and seeing a court process through is even harder.
"But she has done both, and though nothing will take away the memories of these events, I hope the conclusion of this case provides her with some comfort," they added.
"Tackling violence against women and girls remains a priority for Wiltshire Police, and we will continue working hard, not only to put people like Mohammed Baig behind bars but also to make people like this woman feel empowered to report this type of abuse to us."
Baig was sentenced after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.
