A child and a man in his 30s were both seriously injured in a crash between a car and a lorry that closed part of a motorway for three hours.

The M4 eastbound between junction 14 for Hungerford and 13 for Newbury was shut at about 11:00 BST before reopening at about 14:00.

The injured pair were taken to hospital, where they remain, Thames Valley Police (TVP) said.

A 33-year-old man from Cirencester was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit and obstructing a police officer.

Sgt Sarah Davies, from TVP's roads policing unit, asked anyone who saw the incident, which involved a red Mitsubishi Shogun and the lorry, to come forward.
