Bra banks launched to support cancer research

People are being asked to donate unwanted bras to support breast cancer research.

Bra banks have been set up at libraries across Lincolnshire in partnership with the charity Against Breast Cancer.

Donated bras are sent for textile recovery, giving them a new lease of life and raising money for work on research, including secondary spread cancer.

Councillor Lindsey Cawrey, who leads on culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said: "When your old bra is done supporting you, it can go on to support vital research."

Having bra banks in libraries means people can donate to the scheme "really easily", she added.

Nicola Rogers, a manager at GLL, which runs the libraries, said being able to recycle fabric while helping the charity was a "win, win".

Twelve libraries have joined the scheme: Lincoln; Boston; Gainsborough; Grantham; Horncastle; Keelby; Long Sutton; Mablethorpe; Skegness; Sleaford; Spalding; and Stamford.
