Under-threat city lido reopens for 2025 season

A city's Lido saved from closure risk is set to reopen later.

Peterborough Lido on Bishop's Road has reopened for the 2025 season after previously facing threats of closure.

As part of cost-saving measures, Peterborough City Council had announced mothballing the outdoor pool, which costs the local authority £400,000 a year to run, but was met with "anger" from residents and pool users.

Clare Marshall, from Friends of Peterborough Lido, has said campaigners were "delighted" the lido would reopen after the council reversed its decision.

The lido is the only public pool in the city after the regional pool was closed following concrete issues.

A £30m replacement pool is being proposed in its place on Bishop's Road.

The lido is reopening later than usual this year, with previous seasons starting in April.

Ms Marshall said: "We look forward to being there on the opening day and enjoying the season, as well as contributing towards future vision and discussions around the pool with Peterborough City Council."

The council said the pool would shut for the season on 7 September.
