Several people have been left homeless after a fire ripped through a caravan park.

About 45 firefighters were sent to the blaze in Fen Road in Chesterton, Cambridge, after it was first reported at 07:54 BST.

The fire service said the blaze started outside and spread to 11 caravans, stables, outbuildings and vehicles.

A spokesperson said five people were treated by ambulance crews for minor injuries.

The caravans were destroyed and all of the inhabitants had found alternative accommodation, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

There were no horses in the stables.

By 11:45 the fire was extinguished and crews remained at the scene to dampen down hot spots.

People in the area were advised to keep their doors and windows closed.
