Firefighters tackle blaze at commercial building

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a commercial building that broke out overnight.

West Midlands Fire Service said they were called to a building on Alma Street, in the Heath Town suburb of Wolverhampton, at 01:00 GMT on Saturday.

The service initially sent six fire engines to the scene, with five crews still on site and working to put out the fire as of 14:30 GMT.

No injuries had been reported, the fire service said.

Alma Street sits between a canal and one of the train lines that runs east out of Wolverhampton station.

The fire service said no roads had been closed but asked people to avoid the area if possible.

It said the fire involved a pile of waste material inside the building, which was creating a lot of smoke.

It advised people who lived or worked nearby to keep their windows and doors closed.
