Christmas vandals smash windows and throw paint

A developer says he "feels sorry" for vandals who smashed the windows of his holiday let and threw red paint across its floors and walls on Christmas Eve.

Ryan Green, 28, said he woke up to the bad news on Christmas morning and initially thought it was a joke, but repairs to the Old Colwyn property will cost him about £500.

"I actually feel sorry for whoever did this, as they clearly have nothing else better to do at Christmas," said Mr Green.

He has reported the damage to North Wales Police, who BBC News has approached for comment.

Mr Green, from Llandudno, in Conwy county, said he spent Christmas morning boarding the property up.

Nothing was stolen, but the front three windows were smashed through and a tin of bright red paint was found splattered over the floor and walls, according to Mr Green.

He said the damage does not bother him, but he feels upset someone could do it on Christmas.

"It's just sad," said Mr Green.

He said the choice red paint seemed personal, and speculated it may reflect anger around the issue of second homes - but said the property had stood empty for a decade before he renovated it, and it was not a typical home a first time buyer would want.

"We keep ourselves to ourselves, we have in no way offended anyone. The only reason I can see someone doing this is perhaps because it is a holiday let," he said.

"But properties we deal with often aren't suitable for first time buyers, they need a lot of work."

Mr Green said he didn't let the situation ruin his Christmas spirit, as he made every effort to crack on with the day.

"I'm just glad no one was hurt," he said.

"If people been in the property, they could have been hit by the paint. It could have been much worse."

As owner of Green Developments, Mr Green has been renovating properties in north Wales for more than three years, but says this was the first time he has experienced vandalism.
