Three Asian hornet queens were trapped over the weekend

Asian hornet season has started "earlier than usual" in Guernsey, a specialist team has warned.

The island's Asian hornet team said three queens were captured within 24 hours over the weekend.

The hornets were trapped at Cobo, Rocquaine and St Martin.

Members of the team said they thought the "persistent easterly winds" were responsible for the influx.

The team said the first Asian hornet queen had been trapped behind the Rockmount restaurant by one of their regular volunteers on Saturday afternoon.

The second found had flown through a living room window of a home just inland from Fort Grey before being caught in a jam jar.

The third hornet queen had been trapped in a shed next to Saumarez Manor, they added.
