The company that provides Guernsey's mobile phone and broadband infrastructure has welcomed the States' approval of 5G mobile internet in the island.

Sure welcomed the States' vote on Wednesday unanimously approving proposals the introduction of the technology.

The company said 5G would bring "faster speeds and greater coverage" which would support islanders' "increasingly digital lives".

Alistair Beak, Sure's group CEO, said the company could now "confidently press ahead" with building a "world-class" £48m 5G mobile network.
