Improvement works for Boston's leisure centres are set to go ahead following Sport England's allocation of funding.

Boston Borough Council has been given £280,000 from Sport England's Swimming Pool Support Fund Grant to revamp leisure facilities.

The money will be split between Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex on Rowley Road and Princess Royal Sports Arena on Great Fen Road, Wyberton.

Councillor Sarah Sharpe said the funding would allow the council to begin "much needed and overdue investment" in Boston's leisure facilities.

Boston was among an initial 53 places to receive a portion of £250m funding from Sport England.

Some of the money allocated to the market town will go towards an improved ventilation system in both leisure centres.

New pool covers will also be installed in Princess Royal Sports Arena to reduce water evaporation.

Work at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex centre is taking place this week and is due to finish on Thursday.

The training pool will be closed and swimming activities relocated to the main leisure pool until the improvements are completed.

The works form part of the council's wider redevelopment plans for the Geoff Moulder complex which include building a two-storey extension.
