A dog has died and two people have been taken to hospital after a gas explosion on a pleasure boat.

Firefighters were called to the scene in Chirk marina, Wrexham county, at 18:10 GMT on Saturday.

The two people escaped the vessel - which sank - with minor injuries but the flames spread to a 40ft long canal boat.

A drifting boat was stopped from hitting others after its mooring ropes broke after catching fire.

No pollutants or debris entered the main canal, North Wales Fire Service Green Watch said in a post on Instagram.
