Bedford School to open offshoot for girls in India

An independent school has announced the opening of an international school in India for girls aged from three to 18.

Bedford School, which counts ex-England cricket captain Sir Alastair Cook as a former pupil, said it was a milestone as the first British international girls' school in the country.

It said the purpose-built school on the outskirts of Chandigarh in the Punjab region would be called Bedford School Mohali, and would open its doors in April 2026.

James Hodgson, headmaster of Bedford School, said: "We are incredibly excited to take the Bedford School ethos and values to Mohali."

The new school will offer the national and the British curriculums and have both day and boarding pupils.

It will have a 1,000-seat auditorium for performances, assemblies and events.

The project is a partnership between Bedford School and the not-for-profit entity Doon International Education Society.

Doon runs four schools in Dehra Dun, Mohali and Chandigarh.
