Three teenagers have been sentenced for seriously injuring a boy in a stabbing.

The 15-year-old victim was attacked at a house on Ravenna Road, Sunderland, last June.

Two boys, aged 17 and 16, and a 15-year-old girl, all who cannot be named for legal reasons due to their ages, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.

At a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, the girl was sentenced to two years and four months in detention, the 16-year-old boy to four years and four months' detention and the other teenager was given a community order.

He must abide by a four-month curfew and a 90-day rehabilitation requirement.

The court heard the victim was found by emergency services inside the house with multiple stab wounds to his back.

He was taken to hospital but has since made a full recovery.

Det Ch Insp Gary Atkinson, of Northumbria Police, said there was "never a good reason" to carry a knife.

He said: "This was a thoughtless and violent act, which could have easily had a far worse outcome for everyone involved."
