Terri Murray says she and her nephew required hospital treatment

A woman has said she is "grateful to be alive" after a rollercoaster cart came off the tracks at a funfair.

Terri Murray, 39, said she was with her 10-year-old nephew at Knightly's Fun Park in Towyn, Conwy, on Saturday when the cart they were riding derailed and fell about 6ft (1.8m) to the ground.

She said they both needed hospital treatment for multiple injuries and were left badly shaken by the incident, which happened while they were on holiday from their home in Birkenhead, Wirral.

Knightly's has been asked to comment while the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it was making inquiries.

"It was so scary, all I keep thinking was thank God we're alive because it could have been so different, we could have been badly hurt or life changing or worse - dead," she said.

Ms Murray said she was visiting the seaside family attraction with her nephew and 18-year-old niece.

But while riding the Gold Mine Express she said there was a "sudden bang" and their carriage came off the tracks.

She said she hit her head on the metal frame and the ground, but managed to protect her nephew from more serious injuries.

"I pulled my nephew in close to my chest saving him as much as possible from getting hurt, he has a sore leg and is bruised and very shaken up, we both are," she added.

"My niece has learning needs but managed to help look after us [and] told the ambulance crew I'm diabetic and what we are allergic to.

"We are very proud with how the children dealt with this situation."

Terri Murray said her head injury had to be glued in hospital

Ms Murray said the pair stayed overnight at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan for "multiple injuries" and she needed to have her head injury glued.

She added: "I'm in so much pain but I'm grateful we're alive and so thankful my nephew wasn't hurt anymore than he was and he is alive.

"The emotional side is horrid [with] nightmares and more. I just want to say thanks to those who stopped to help."

Ms Murray said Knightly's had been in touch following the incident but she had not been able to talk to them properly as she was still struggling to concentrate.

The HSE said: "We have been notified and are making initial inquiries."
