Twin brothers who killed a man after they felt "ripped off" while trying to buy drugs from him have been jailed.

Shane Boxall, 44, was attacked at his home on Alaska Street, Hull, early on 25 April 2024. He died in hospital two days later.

Kailum and Kieran Nightingale, 26, denied murder but were convicted of manslaughter following a trial in December.

Hull Crown Court heard the twins had forced their way into Mr Boxall's home, before Kailum Nightingale punched him in the head causing fatal injuries.

Kailum Nightingale, of Poplar Grove, Hull, was handed a 10-year jail term. Kieran Nightingale, of Vermont Crescent, Hull, was sentenced to nine years in prison.

During the trial, jurors were told the twins paid Mr Boxall for Class A drugs but he failed to hand them over.

They then "barged" into Mr Boxall's home at about 05:45, the court heard.

Mr Boxall locked himself in his bedroom, but the twins smashed the bedroom door.

Peter Makepeace, defending, said Kailum Nightingale had "reasonably struck him to retrieve his stolen money" and "couldn't have possibly known the consequences".

Shane Boxall's eldest daughter paid tribute to a "good and kind natured" father

Following the sentencing, Mr Boxall's eldest daughter said: "Our dad was a good man with a kind nature and did not deserve what happened to him. He really was a family man and surrounded himself with a big family who all loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed.

"No amount of time will bring my dad back, but we are glad Kieran and Kailum are locked up and unable to hurt anyone else."

Humberside Police said officers found the brothers at the property when they attended after Mr Boxall called 999 but they fled the scene.

Mr Boxall was taken to hospital but died from his injuries on 27 April.

Det Ch Insp Jon Cross said: "Shane was a vulnerable individual who was doing everything he could to protect himself from both the brothers, but there was nothing to stop them inflicting the harm they were intending to cause that morning and they've shown nothing but disregard since.

"Their obnoxious behaviour didn't subside even after they saw him suffering on the floor, dismissing the damage they had caused by saying he was 'pretending', and proceeding to hang around in the house refusing to help the witnesses as they tried to save his life."
