Work starts on changes outside railway station

The next phase of an upgrade to the area around York Railway Station has begun, with users warned about road closures and the relocation of bus stops.
City of York Council has released a new image which shows the progress of the £25m Station Gateway project, including a new paved recreation area and cycle paths.
From 10 March, four bus stops on the city walls side of Station Road will be moved down the road, the council said, with lane closures on Blossom Street to remain in place until 12 April.
The authority said Network Rail's long-stay car park would also be closed permanently from 23.59 GMT on 14 March to allow for work to begin on a new car park.
Councillor Kate Ravillious, executive member for Transport at City of York Council, said: "I would like to reassure people that buses will continue to serve the station and that the changeover of the bus stops will not happen overnight, so please do continue to use our local bus services to travel into and around the city."
She added: "We are hugely grateful for everyone for their patience and understanding while these works take place.
"We are working closely with our contractor and partners to minimise disruption as much as possible."
The major scheme, which includes the building of a new station square and larger areas for pedestrians, taxis and buses, is set to be completed this year.
The work will also involve a new station frontage, an improved transport interchange and a new setting for the City Walls and other heritage buildings in the area.
In November 2024, closures to a key road in the city centre allowed for the removal of most of Queen Street Bridge.
