A woman and three dogs who were living in a makeshift shelter in Wolverhampton have all found homes.

The homeless woman was living in a tent in Bilston with her dogs, Gus, Ocean and Frank, when city centre police officers were made aware of her situation.

A housing charity reached out to the woman and, supported by Wolverhampton Homes, found her accommodation, police said.

French bulldog Gus and two pugs called Ocean and Frank have been taken in by three police officers.

The P3 homeless and housing charity who stepped in to help last month tried to find accommodation for the dogs, but other agencies were full and unable to offer support, police said.

As the three dogs spent Christmas Day in their new homes, PC Kirstie Brooks, who had worked to help the woman, said: "We try to support people and be there to help when they're in the most need."

PC Corinna Vondyta, who took in fawn pug Frank, said he had become best friends with the family's sausage dog, Ralph.

"We love dogs and couldn't see him homeless," she said.

Adding that he "snores like a trooper", she said: "He is the most loving, adorable thing in the world."

City centre police community support officer James Wykes, who has black pug Ocean, said she was loved by the whole family.

"Her favourite treats are gravy bones, she loves playing with her Christmas goose squeaky toy and going on long walks."

Response sergeant Philip Auger took in Gus after their old dog, rescued years earlier from a drugs den, died in August.

The father-of-three said Gus went on the school run and had joined a trip to visit Santa.

"Gus is so happy when he is around people and other dogs," he said. "His temperament is outstanding."
