Celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of Guernsey's Liberation Day will include live music, a vintage fair and fireworks, organisers said.

The States of Guernsey released details for the event on 9 May which will mark the island's liberation from German forces at the end of World War Two in 1945.

It said live entertainment was planned across several venues in St Peter Port as well as events in St Pierre du Bois, St Andrews, St Martins, Vale and Sark.

Organisers have asked for volunteers to come forward and help run the celebrations.

There is set to be live music, a vintage fair, a display of military vehicles and a cavalcade before the traditional fireworks display to mark the end of the celebrations.

It added other events would include a mini parade in St Pierre du Bois and a parishioners tea party in Vale.

'Looking for volunteers'

Liberation Day organisers said anyone who would like to volunteer should attend an information day which will take place at Les Cotils at 17:30 on 26 March.

Helen Glencross, head of heritage services and chair of the Liberation Day Oversight Committee, the team was still needed more volunteers.

She said: "I would ask any islanders who can give up just a couple of hours of their day to marshal, steward or lend a hand to register."

People can register via the Volunteer in Guernsey website.
