Officers have increased their patrols in the area where a man was injured in a suspected firearm incident

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a suspected firearms incident.

Bedfordshire Police were called to Needham Road, Luton, at about 13:45 BST "following reports of a suspected firearms discharge".

A police spokesperson said: "We understand this is concerning for members of the public, and officers are increasing their patrols in the area. One man was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries."

It is the third firearm incident in the town since reports of gunfire at Marsh Farm on Friday and another at Hockwell Ring on Sunday.

Following the incidents, police carried out stop and searches until 18:35 on Monday within the town.

A Section 60 order had been authorised, giving officers heightened powers to conduct stop and searches.
