There were long tailbacks on the M4 on Thursday morning

A stretch of the M4 has reopened after hydraulic fluid spilled across the carriageway early on Thursday, National Highways has said.

The carriageway was closed between junction 15 for Swindon and junction 14 for Hungerford for the majority of Thursday, but reopened at about 20:40 GMT.

Lane closures are now in place for scheduled overnight works along the same stretch of road, but motorists can drive through.

National Highways carried out emergency resurfacing works after the road surface was "significantly damaged" by the spillage.
