M8 slip road closed after report of man with weapon

A slip road of the M8 remains closed after police received a report of a man with a possible weapon.

Officers temporarily shut the motorway at junction six eastbound for Newhouse and Chapelhall, North Lanarkshire, after receiving the call about 08:55. However, the motorway has since reopened.

The M8 slip road at Junction 6A on the A8 eastbound at the Eurocentral industrial estate remains closed.

Police Scotland said specialist officers had been sent to the area as a precaution while a search is carried out.

Motorists have been advised to use an alternative route.
