Vinnie Jones says he wishes he was in Peaky Blinders
Actor and former football hardman Vinnie Jones says he wishes he'd been in Peaky Blinders.
“Peaky Blinders, obviously, I wish I would have done that, because I thought I was made for that," he told The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X. "Some things you think you’re made for.”
Hollywood star Cillian Murphy has recently been spotted filming the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, with the Irish actor donning his signature cap and coat on set in north Wales.
Since making his acting debut in Guy Richie’s crime comedy Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Jones has made a name for himself as a classic movie hardman.
Now, he’s starring in Only Fools and Horses stage play as sitcom hardman, Danny Driscoll – one half of the iconic Driscoll Brothers.
“I grew up with Only Fools And Horses, and when I was playing football, and you done all the magazines, it was like every footballer's favourite TV show! ‘What is it?’ ‘Only Fools And Horses," said the former Chelsea, Leeds and Wimbledon midfielder.
"And here we are, you know, a few decades on, and I get asked to do it, and it's, you know, it's an honour. It is an absolute honour to do it.”
Only Fools and Horses: The Musical stars Sam Lupton as Del Boy alongside Tom Major as Rodney and Paul Whitehouse as Grandad.
“I mean, you know, my mates sort of say, ‘Why? What are you doing? Why?’” said Jones, a former Wales football captain.
“And you push the envelope, don’t you? And I think it makes you more of a worldly person. Do you know what I mean?”
Meanwhile, the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie is still in production across the UK, with a handful of classic Peaky characters set to return.
Johnny Dogs, played by Packy Lee, has already been spotted alongside Murphy on location, with Stephen Graham returning as Hayden Stagg, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong, and Ian Peck as Curly.
They’re joined by newcomers Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Jay Lycurgo, but sadly not Vinnie Jones.
Tom Harper is directing the Peaky Blinders film based on a script by Peaky Blinders creator, Steven Knight, who is also producing alongside Patrick Holland, Cillian Murphy and Guy Heeley.
Peaky Blinders originally debuted as a TV series back in 2013 - and all episodes are available on BBC iPlayer.
