Man charged after attempted rape in city centre

A man was due in court on Monday, charged with attempted rape

A man has been charged following the attempted rape of a woman in Doncaster city centre over the weekend.

According to South Yorkshire Police, the woman was reportedly attacked by an assailant who was not known to her, at Doncaster Harbour at approximately 01:30 BST on Saturday 28 June, but managed to fight off her attacker and flee.

Daniel Millward, 40, of Wordsworth Avenue, was arrested on Sunday, and charged with sexual assault, attempted rape and intentional suffocation.

He was remanded into custody and was expected at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Monday, a police spokesperson said.
