A dog had to be put to sleep by a vet after being seriously hurt when a tile was thrown through a window.
Durham Police said it was called to a property on Easson Road in Darlington at about 08:25 GMT last Friday.
It said a tile had seriously injured the dog's eye and the animal was put to sleep as a result.
The force is investigating the attack and is looking for a suspect who they said was riding a bike and wearing dark clothing.
