The solar energy farm is proposed for land in South Bank, Middlesbrough.

Plans have been submitted for a solar farm on a site that was refused permission for a waste processing plant.

It would be located on vacant land at Old Station Road in South Bank, Middlesbrough, where a motorcross track used to be.

Previous plans for waste processing were thrown out by councillors, a decision subsequently upheld by a government-appointed planning inspector.

The planning authority said it supported the solar farm in principle, as long as designated land for the potential extension of existing Gypsy and traveller accommodation to the west, known as The Haven, was retained.

A planning statement prepared by consultants Origin Planning Services was submitted to Redcar and Cleveland Council, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Public consultation on the plans had a "low response rate", which consultants suggested showed "many local individuals have no issue with the proposal, as [they] have not voiced any negative opinions".
