A 66-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man died after a car went over a cliff into the sea on the Isle of Wight, Police said.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it was called at about 19:20BST on Friday after a Ford Mondeo, drove off Alum Bay New Road, came off the cliff top and came to rest in the water below.

The pair have not been formally identified but police said their next of kin have been informed and a post mortem will take place on Tuesday.

Two dogs, both Dachshunds, were also in the car and died in the incident, officers confirmed.

The force has been carrying out enquiries at an address on Arctic Road, Cowes to help them to establish what happened.
