Labour has gained five seats from the Conservatives in Northamptonshire after Thursday's general election.

The county's seven MPs had all been Tories following the 2019 election that saw Boris Johnson lead the party to a post-Brexit landslide.

This time round, the new Labour MPs are Lee Baron in Corby & East Northants; Rosie Wrighting in Kettering; Lucy Rigby in Northampton North; Mike Reader in Northampton South; and Gen Kitchen in Wellingborough & Rushden.

The Conservatives' Stuart Andrew won in Daventry, while Sarah Bool won in South Northants.

Mike Reader secured 16,890 votes in Northampton South ahead of the seat's previous Conservative MP, Andrew Lewer, on 12,819.

The Reform UK came third with 8,210.

In 2019, Mr Lewer had won the seat with just under 20,000 votes.

Immigration minister Tom Pursglove lost his Corby seat as Labour overturned his 10,268 majority with 21,020 votes. Reform UK came third with 8,760.

In Northampton North, Rigby won where the sitting Conservative MP Michael Ellis decided not to stand for re-election.

She collected 18,209 votes, pushing the new Conservative candidate Dan Bennet into second place with 9,195.

Wrighting unseated Philip Hollobone in Kettering with a majority of just under 4,000.

Gen Kitchen, the Labour MP who won Wellingborough in a by-election earlier this year, kept the seat with 17,754 votes.

The seat had been held by veteran Conservative MP Peter Bone, who had been suspended, and his partner Helen Harrison was standing for the party this time round, but she came second. Reform UK came third.

Andrew retained the Daventry - a seat that had previously been won by Chris Heaton-Harris, who had been Northern Ireland Secretary under Prime Minister Liz Truss and was also appointed Conservative chief whip.

Bool won the South Northants seat that had previously been held by Andrea Leadsom.
