Events including a memorial service at the Cenotaph in Hull and a 1940s-themed street party have been announced as part of the city's VE Day celebrations.

Hull City Council said the memorial will be held at the site at Paragon Square at 11:00 BST on 8 May as part of the events to mark the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender to Allied forces in World War Two.

Several buildings in the city centre will also be illuminated in the evening from 6 to 8 May as part of the programme.

Chris Jackson, director of regeneration at Hull City Council, said it was a time to "come together" and "celebrate this historic date."

Hull History Centre will hold free screenings of archive footage, showing the people of Hull celebrating VE Day in May 1945, on 3 May.

A street party is scheduled to take place at East Park on 5 May and is expected to feature themed entertainment.

On 8 May, street parties are also planned at charity Hull 4 Heroes in Princes Quay from 11:00 and at Bransholme Chat shop.
