A family-owned carpet store that has been serving customers for almost 100 years has closed its doors.

Adam Carpets has been producing carpets in Kidderminster since 1928.

Owners appointed administrators on 20 March but were not able to salvage the business.

The joint administrators said tough economic conditions had put "immense pressure" on the company and it had ceased trading.

In a statement they confirmed the focus was now on maximising value for the benefit of creditors.

Previously, managing director Chris Adam said the appointment of administrators was a huge sadness.

He said: "UK consumers simply do not have the confidence in their finances to buy enough of our high-quality wool-rich carpet to make our business viable right now."

All 50 employees have been made redundant and the company said it was "assisting them to move forward with their plans for the future".
