A woman has pleaded not guilty in court after a one-year-old was seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to a house in Waltham Close in Branksome, Darlington, on the afternoon of 26 May, and the child was taken to hospital.

Amy Cave, 20, denied a charge at Teesside Crown Court of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

Craig Neill, 26, who faces the same charge, did not enter a plea. Both were remanded in custody.

A provisional trial date in relation to Ms Cave was set for 6 October.

A 24-year-old man who was arrested at the time remains on bail.
