A charging electric bike that caught fire has caused severe damage to a flat, a fire service said.

Crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue service were called to Beaconsfield House in Surrey Street, Lowestoft at about 09:52 GMT to find a ground-floor flat on fire.

No one was injured and the remains of the bike have been taken away for further examination.

Four appliances attended the scene after neighbours saw smoke and heard an activated fire alarm.

The fire took under two hours to extinguish, and firefighters have remained on site to carry out building checks.
