A woman who is sleeping on the streets for 10 nights across the UK to highlight the issues facing vulnerable women is bedding down in Hull later.

Lianne Kirkman, from Scunthorpe, will spend her ninth night in the city and meet with two local organisations, before finishing in Blackpool on Monday.

Ms Kirkman, founder of The Esther Project, which supports women dealing with a range of issues, such as mental health, domestic abuse and addiction, is raising awareness about some of the challenges facing homeless women.

The Her Fight, Our Night Challenge has seen her also sleep out in Leamington Spa, Coventry, Birmingham, Bristol, Plymouth, Southampton, London and Doncaster.

Ms Kirkman said she wanted to learn from the organisations and groups she spent time with.

"I want to see what's working for them in the areas of counselling, employability, homelessness and women in and out of the criminal justice system," she said.

"There are some great projects out there."

She will be joined in Hull by Phil Irvin, from Jubilee Church Hull, which supports those in need in the city and works with the homeless.

Ms Kirkman said she had also spent time with Together Women, a not-for-profit organisation in George Street that supports women and girls across the North of England.

The centre focuses on those who are involved or at risk of entering the criminal justice system.
