Seven drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in Jersey during December.

Officers along with honorary police carried out extra patrols and roadside checks across the island during the month, to tackle drivers who had been drinking and driving.

Of the 813 stops, 163 breath samples were taken and as a result, seven drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

Nine others were given words of advice - meaning the breathalyser registered alcohol on the driver's breath but below the prescribed legal limit.

'Unacceptable'

In addition one vehicle was impounded, 12 drivers were reported to parish hall enquiries and 155 were given words of advice in relation to other driving matters.

During 2024, 50 drivers were breathalysed and found to be over the prescribed limit, compared to 77 in 2023.

Insp Lawrence Courtness, who is roads policing lead, said: "I want to thank our officers and our honorary police colleagues for their dedication and thoroughness in conducting these checks over the festive period.

"Their efforts are crucial in ensuring the safety of our roads and our community. It is encouraging to see that the drink-driving figures have gone down since 2023, but we do still have individuals choosing to drink and drive – this is unacceptable.

"I'd like to ask our community to continue to work with us to further reduce drink-driving."

He added: "If you see someone getting into a car after they have been drinking, please ring 999."
