Residents call on council to make road safer
People living near the scene of a fatal crash in Worcestershire are calling on the county council to make the road safer.
On Tuesday, a woman in her 20s died and a man in his 30s was critically injured in a collision involving a coach and a car on the B4208 near Welland.
"Enough’s enough," said Duncan Williams, who uses the crossroads to get to and from his home nearby. "We’re all in fear that it could be one of us one of these days."
The county council said it was waiting for a police report to decide whether changes were needed.
Mr Williams said the Danemoor crossroads, where the crash happened, was a black spot for accidents, and he would like a set of traffic lights to be installed.
Jake Smith, a local HGV driver who often uses the crossroads, agrees.
Eighteen months ago, he came to the assistance of an elderly couple whose car had ended up on its roof.
"It’s really upsetting… I just wish [the council] would do something about it. There are many, many near misses on that crossroads.
"It needs to be looked into," he said.
Mr Smith said the crossroads became even more dangerous when used as an alternative route because of flooding, or when events like the Three Counties Show were on.
He said it could be hard to judge who has right of way when more than one car is waiting to turn.
"Any risk could be taken away just by simply putting a set of traffic lights up."
Worcestershire County Council said: "Our thoughts remain with those affected by last week's incident.
"Changes have previously been made to improve the junction's visibility, and we await the full police report to inform any further action that may be taken".
